Chlamydia Screening in Schools
Chlamydia is currently the most commonly diagnosed Sexually Transmitted Infection amongst 16-24year olds in the UK. Latest data suggests that approximately 1 in 14 young people aged under 25 who are tested carry Chlamydia.
Chlamydia is often asymptomatic and left untreated can carry serious implications including infertility, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and ectopic pregnancy. Testing is simple and painless and involves giving a urine sample.

Redbridge’s Chlamydia Screening target 2010/11 is 35% of all 16-24 year olds resident in the borough.
Effective treatment is offered to anyone testing positive through a course of antibiotics.
The Teenage Pregnancy Strategy is working in partnership with funded providers to offer screening to all 16-24year olds in Redbridge, by trained professionals, all of whom are Enhanced CRB checked.
This is available through a number of programmes to all Redbridge schools. For more information download Chlamydia Screening in Redbridge Schools 2010/11 or contact your schools School Nurse.
