R U Ready?
We know that young people today experience a lot of pressure, both real and perceived, to become sexually active at a young age.
“R U Ready?” aims to train professionals working with young people to help them to resist the pressure to have early sex, build confidence and self esteem and realise that most young people don’t have sex until they are older than 16 and that those who do have sex an early age often express regret.
In a poll on www.youngpeoplefriendly.co.uk 59% of local young people responded that they thought most people in this country experienced first sex aged 13-15. This is a common misconception that we often come across in the classroom.
We challenge this myth in all of our work in schools, partnership working and through outreach events with our “Love Tree” – in which we ask young people to think of ways they can show love without anything sexual involved and encourage them to consider positive relationships, and aspire to have loving caring relationships for themselves.

Brook services offer a “someone to talk to service” and can offer support and guidance as well as contraception and advice to any young person experiencing pressure or thinking about sex for the first time.
